GLPI Launches New Community Peace Initiative in Eastern DRC

The Great Lakes Peace Institute is proud to announce the launch of our new Community Peace Initiative in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. This comprehensive program represents a significant step forward in our mission to build sustainable peace through community-centered approaches. ## Program Overview The Community Peace Initiative focuses on three key pillars: 1. **Community Mediation Training**: We're training local leaders in conflict resolution techniques that respect traditional practices while incorporating modern mediation methods. 2. **Youth Engagement Programs**: Special emphasis on involving young people in peace-building activities, recognizing their crucial role in shaping the future of their communities. 3. **Economic Empowerment**: Supporting sustainable livelihoods that reduce the economic drivers of conflict. ## Impact and Reach Since the program's launch, we have: - Trained 150 community mediators across 25 villages - Established 12 youth peace clubs - Supported 200 families with micro-enterprise development - Facilitated the resolution of 45 community disputes ## Community Voices "The training has given us the tools to resolve conflicts before they escalate," says Marie, a community mediator from Goma. "We're seeing real change in how our community handles disagreements." ## Looking Forward This initiative is just the beginning. We plan to expand to additional communities and develop partnerships with local organizations to ensure long-term sustainability.
